Genovese was founded by Subarna Bhattachan, Alejandro Lule & Armando Paniagua originally in 2007. Recently, the restaurant was revived by a team lead by Subarna, Alejandro, Armando & former GM of Genovese, Alex Dominguez in a smaller version of original Genovese given the size of the current location. They all bring a tremendous amount of knowledge about food, wine/drinks, enthusiasm, passion, belief in presentation, flavors & customer service.
Genovese is a locally owned & a Chef driven seasonal Italian cuisine restaurant where we make all ingredients from scratch & using fresh ingredients. Our goal is to provide an authentic taste of Italy in an affordable manner.
Chef/Owner Armando has started his culinary career in the San Francisco, CA area in 1992 working at various restaurants like Cafe Marimba . He was the Sous-Chef & eventually becoming the Executive Chef of Rose Pistola, an Italian Restaurant in North Beach area of San Francisco for 10 years. He, then, opened Genovese in Lawrence, KS with Subarna & Alejandro in 2007.
Armando has traveled to Italy, France & Spain extensively for food & wine research. In addition, he has also traveled to Mexico, Paraguay, Brazil, Peru & Chile to discover their food & wine scene.
Alejandro’s restaurant industry’s experience also started in the San Francisco Bay area at Lulu’s & Cafe Marimba. Then, he moved to Lawrence in 1994 & worked at Teller’s, Pancho’s & Pachamama’s. He opened La Parrilla with Subarna in 1999 & then, Zen Zero in 2002. Hisvtracels to Mexico, Latin America & Europe has given him a unique opportunity to experience diverse foods & cultures.
Subarna has worked in the food service industry since his college days from 1990 onwards totalling 33 years. He has worked in Italian restaurants & also helped open 4 restaurants. He co-owns La Parrilla, Zen Zero & Genovese. His love of food & wine is exuberant. He has traveled extensively to Asia, Europe & South America tasting local foods & wines.
Alex Dominguez will be the General Manager of Genovese. Alex was the GM of the old Genovese location for 10 years. Prior to that, Alex worked at Tuna’s Waterfront Grill for 12 years along along with Michael’s Kitchen & Lola’s Restaurants in the Miami, FL area. He brings tremendous knowledge & enthusiasm food, wine, cocktails & service.
